What You Need to Know About Over-Optimization?

One of the deadliest mistakes an online marketer can make is known as over-optimization.

What Is Over-Optimization?

Over-optimization usually occurs when targeted keywords are used too often on the same web page, or when they are emphasized too much with formatting.  For example, it used to be that the number of times a keyword appeared on a page determined how relevant that page was to that keyword.  Spammers have abused this knowledge.  Now if you use keywords too frequently in the same article, you could get penalized by Google for over-optimization.

Most honest online marketers are aware of “black hat SEO” such as placing invisible text on a page and avoid it.

Signs of Over-Optimization

Here are some common signs of an over-optimized page:
  • Keywords are repeated unnecessarily in the title
  • Keywords are used without variations, for example “facebook fan page” and never “facebook page,” “facebook business page,” etc.
  • Keywords are used so often that the text sounds unnatural and repetitive
  • Keywords are unnecessarily formatted in bold, italic or other special formatting
  • Keywords appear repeatedly in headings (h2, h3, etc.)
  • Titles are repeated in the body exactly as in the page title
  • The anchor text of backlinks to your site contain the exact same keywords over and over
Fix It Quickly

As soon as you identify an over-optimization problem with your website, fix it immediately.  Research your keywords and look for alternative long tail variations.  For example, instead of merely targeting “facebook emoticons,” try “emoticons for facebook,” “facebook smileys,” “facebook symbols,” and so on. Use these in your on-site text as well as your linkbuilding articles, such as guest posts and marketed articles.  That doesn’t mean you should stop using your primary keywords; just don’t overuse them.
When using keywords, choose the words that best describe the content to a human reader.  Do not think of manipulating search engines when you do this.  Think of what searchers need and help them find what they need on your site.

Remember, too much SEO can be a bad thing.  Search engines use algorithms to help searchers, not online marketers who want to make a profit – and they will severely punish anyone caught manipulating their systems.  Google Panda has been a lesson for everyone. Take that lesson to heart. Focus on great content and pleasing your visitors first; think keywords and search engines second.

HOW DO YOU MERGE TWO FACEBOOK PAGE INTO A SINGLE PAGE

There are often times when you have two or more than two pages for the same thing – for example, one official and the others unofficial. It is often the case that the unofficial page(s) might have more user likes than the official ones because Facebook users accidentally liked the unofficial page and are now following that page. Because of the missing fans, you could lose ad opportunities, news feed impressions and valuable clicks on your main page. However, it is nigh on impossible to manage the duplicate pages as well as you manage your official page because it is a waste of time and energy.
Thankfully, Facebook allows you to merge two similar pages into a single page by a tool called “Merge Duplicate Pages” so that fans from the duplicate page can be added to your official page without any hassles. Here is how you can go about doing this –

How Do Pages Qualify for Merging?
For qualifying to be merged, the pages must qualify certain points –
  • You must be at least a manager level admin of all the pages you hope to merge together.
  • The pages that are eligible to be merged must represent the same things and be similar in content.
  • The name of the pages must also be similar for them to be eligible.
What Steps Should You Follow Before Merging The Pages?
When you merge two Facebook pages together, your likes and user data would be transferred to the page you choose to make official. However, the other duplicate pages would be deleted and you would not have a future option to unmerge these pages. Just to be on the safer side, you should create a backup of all the pages you are planning to merge together, in case you need it in the future. There are many tools on the internet, which allow pages to be backed up, and you can use any of those as they are mostly free.

How Can You Merge Multiple Facebook Pages Into A Single Page?

In order to merge your pages, you should follow the following instructions –
  1. You need to be logged into Facebook as yourself and not as the page you admin. So, before you decide to merge pages, log in as yourself.
  2. On top of the page that you want to be your main page, browse over the ‘Edit Page’ option. Click on the drop down menu that appears next to it.
  3. Select on the option of ‘Edit Settings’ and you would see the option ‘Merge Pages’.
  4. After you select the option of ‘Merge Pages’, you need to select ‘Request to Merge Duplicate Pages’.
  5. Complete the form that appears and click on send.

How to Merge Non Identical Pages?

As mentioned before, the pages you choose to merge need to have identical names. In order to merge Facebook pages, this is a necessity because when you decide to merge the pages, you would be shown a list of pages that are eligible to be merged. If the names are not similar, the merging would not be allowed. You have two options in case the page you wanted to merge does not appear on the list or is not identical to the other page:
  • You can report all the pages that are not appearing as ‘Duplicates’.
  • You can wait that sometime in the future, Facebook would add the option of merging pages that seem non identical at first glance.
What Would Be the Result After Merging Two Pages?
After you successfully merge pages, these are the things that will happen –
  1. The merged official page would include all your check-ins, likes and other similar data.
  2. The posts, information, comments etc. that were on the duplicate page would be deleted. If there is some important information in the data of the duplicate pages, you must create a backup of the page. Note that the deletion would be of a permanent nature and you cannot unmerge the pages if you change your mind later.
  3. The page that you chose to keep – your official page – would have no changes in its data except that it would also absorb the likes from the duplicate deleted pages and also the check-ins.
What Are The Steps You Should Follow After Pages Are Merged?
When users like a page that is low on activity, they inadvertently forget about it. If, suddenly, the page starts showing activity, users could get annoyed and might start reporting posts as spam. Since the adding of fans to your official page is quiet, there could be a lot of confusion. For avoiding any spam reports that could dent your post visibility, you should craft a welcome post on top of the page.
This welcome post could explain how this page is your official page and you can also talk about how you want to ensure that the users’ Facebook experience is great on your page. Add a little note about how this new page would add value to their Facebook life and you can also offer some discount coupons or interesting information to keep them hooked.
The biggest benefit of the Merge tool is that you get to keep your fans. If you have multiple pages for the same thing, users are anyway going to leave the less active pages. Instead, you can be more active on your active page and retain your users. So, prefer using the Merge tool instead of deleting the other pages.

Prepare and Update Your SEO for 2014

Captivate with Content
From an SEO perspective, search engines like Google  will continue to provide users with the most relevant data. Since users are searching with more semantic queries, as content marketers and business owners, we must focus on quality over quantity.

Proper Promotion
When it comes to marketing your content, keep in mind that it is usually twice as difficult to market your content than it was to write it.  A great article is nothing when it is not reaching its intended readers, so take some time to find the appropriate channels.

Give Social Media Some Love
Social media has been a major player in the digital marketing landscape for the last few years. First we saw the rise of mega platforms like Facebook and Twitter. In the last couple of years, visual content from networks like Pinterest, Instagram, and various micro-video services have swept through.

 Build Links
The concept of link building is where SEO becomes very murky because most search engines have penalized many sites in the past for obtaining links from shady sources.  In 2013, Google updated their algorithm to lower the rank of sites that utilized black hat SEO techniques like “link farms” or “link circles” and will continue to penalize websites that link to sites that aren’t industry relevant or significant in any way.

INCREASE MOBILE SALES WITH FACEBOOK SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING

Facebook marketing takes on a variety of different styles depending on the business client. Whether you are a small business, large company, blogger, author or musician, Facebook marketing can be defined by your goals such as increasingtraffic or mobile sales. When strategies target mobile users, they have to consider the way that a person is accessing content and how they will interact with the page. The marketing strategies that you use to gain more mobile sales will also be an extension of your business’ homepage. There are three things to target with Facebook social media marketing. These include:
  • Facebook Likes or Fans
  • Engagement with Mobile Consumers
  • Mobile Sales Targeting
Increase Facebook Mobile Followers

One of the ways that companies integrate Facebook followers with their mobile marketing strategy is to email target audiences with the news of a new Facebook page. Your Facebook page should already be optimized for mobile browsing. You can create a landing page to welcome visitors and even include an email subscriber signup. It’s best if you offer something in return for someone liking or signing up such as discounts or free t-shirts. You may also want to host contests and drive social media through your Facebook by holding mobile-centric contests. For example, you can integrate with an Instagram contest showing off one of your company’s latest products. The winner gets a grab bag of goodies. These contests, free gifts and landing pages ultimately lead more people to want to like your page on Facebook.
Tools like Heyo make it easy to create mobile-friendly Facebook contests. This software reroutes the URL automatically for mobile users so they always go to your mobile contest page.

Stay Engaged with Facebook Community

There are a variety of ways to stay engaged with your mobile community. You can run polls using the Facebook “Question” feature or you can also use third party survey tools. You may want to include other social media sites with your Facebook business page such as Twitter or Pinterest. There are also mobile tools from Hootsuite that you can use to respond to comments as quickly as possible on Facebook to stay updated and engaged with your followers. In addition, you should always add visual media to your Facebook such as images, slide shows, presentations and YouTube videos.

When you start to engage with your community, you should also track your ROI. There are tools like LogMyCalls to measure mobile marketing. This tool allows you to track every call that has been generated by mobile advertising and helps you to measure the return on investment.
The other thing a business must understand is how the public views your Facebook page on their mobile phones. In “Public” view, Facebook offers a summary that doesn’t show your entire timeline. Mobile viewers will be able to see your profile photo, cover image and a pinned post. You can use pinned post to ensure that mobile viewers see the most important content of the day. After your pinned post, mobile viewers see recommendations and check-ins. You should have recommendations set to visible in order to encourage more likes and followers. Photos taken at your company are shown next. These aren’t necessarily photos that you upload. Lastly, they will see your posts.

Mobile Sales Targeting

Since the mobile view of your Facebook page is rather condensed, you should set it up in a way that is inviting and original yet also drives sales. This means that your latest contest, promotion or product is included in your pinned post. You should also have a link to your online store embedded in your page profile and in most of your Facebook posts. You can also list your products for sale on Facebook or provide links to where people can find your products on iTunes, Amazon or Kindle.
One of the greatest things that you can do for your online store is to purchaseFacebook mobile advertising. These are targeted ads that will draw in sales every day to your store. Facebook has recently bolstered new efforts to improve mobile marketing on the social network.
As with anything mobile, it has to be convenient and clearly portrayed as authentic to the user. People want to like your content, but not if you spam them or fill your page with advertisements. By providing contests, promotions, gifts, helpful information and visual media, you offer a trustworthy relationship with mobile consumers.
