How to Improve Your Site's Search Engine Optimization

Search engine optimization can raise your website's profile, delivering more traffic, more customers, and bigger revenues. Here's how to make the most of this essential marketing tool.

Trying to improve your website's search engine ranking can seem a bit like the quest for romance. Like people looking for love, websites looking for a high search ranking can find it many different ways and with varying degrees of success. As with romance, you don't need to spend a lot of money; your intrinsic appeal matters more than the size of your investment. And, as with love, you can't achieve a high search engine ranking once and then never worry about it again. Search engine optimization (SEO) is an ongoing effort, and the more you work at it, the better it will be.

There are many things that any small business—even one with no budget for SEO—can do to improve its search rankings. Here's a look at some of the most effective ways to raise your profile in search.

SEO Tips: Five Ways to Get Linked

1. Give stuff away. Does your company offer free samples of its product? Do you have any handy applications or an ebook you can let site visitors download for free? There are few more effective ways to get people to link to your site than to offer something for nothing.

2. Share useful information. Links are commonly used to share information, so putting useful information on your site, such as articles or how-to guides will help draw links.

3. Connect with your community. This can be either your geographic community or a community based on your industry. Sponsoring an event at a local charity, interviewing an industry expert and posting the interview on your site or writing articles and blog entries for others to post can all bring inbound links.

4. Reach out to the blogosphere. Bloggers are always looking for new ideas, new websites to link to, and new products to write about, and they can be a great source of link love.

5. Use good old-fashioned PR. Getting mentioned in the press is good for your company in many different ways, and one of them is that online publications may include links to your site or your information if your company is mentioned in an article.

WARNING: Whatever you do, don't join a "link farm"—a website consisting only of links whose only goal is to raise rankings. Search companies are liable to punish sites listed in link farms by lowering their rankings instead.

How to measure SEO Effectiveness

Every website SEO performance and results can be measured through following three factors.

1.       Monitor Keyword Rankings
2.       Analyze Monthly Visitors
3.       Track Leads & Conversions

1) Monitor Keyword Rankings
Initially every website will be targeted to few keywords which are relevant to respective website niche. SEO Professionals should make sure that “respective landing pages of the website should be indexed & ranked for targeted keywords”. If your website is started ranking for few long tail keywords in the first month itself, it means “your SEO team is doing the right job”. Also month over month keyword rankings positions should be improved. With the help of following kind of report everybody can measure their SEO effectiveness.

2) Analyze Monthly Visitors
Every website visits can be tracked through Google Analytics. It’s free tool offered by Google, also simple to install & activate on website. Usually for a new website minimum two months’ time required to receive traffic from search engines. From 3rd month onwards every website will start receiving little traffic and it should be gradually increased month over month. Of course, traffic increase in every month is a difficult task, so at least existing minimum traffic shouldn’t be decreased.

If your SEO team is continuously adding new content pages then the traffic should be improved. So keep an eye on website traffic and measure your SEO team efforts. Ask your SEO team to provide monthly improvement stats and reports for your reference.

3) Track Leads & Conversions
Your website should have Phone number, Email ID and Inquiry box if you are offering services. If your site is an eCommerce portal then it’s important to have online payment facility, so that visitors will purchase your products through online.

Google+ : SEO Impact

In continuation to my previous post on Google Plus : Bitter or Better , this post is more about the impact of Google+ SERP on SEO. In last post, I have share that, how Google reads individual search pattern, track & analyze the data through web history. Now, this impacts along with what your friends in your G+ circles are sharing while you search for anything in Google+ search.

I clearly sense the two major objective of Google behind this Google+.
  1. Gaining market share in Social Media
  2. Improve the trustworthiness of results & give personalize touch to result pages.
  3. So, by now its very clear that, based on your web history & what your friends have shared on web, you will get personalized results. It simply means that, if you are a business, then you need to have Google+ page & need to get added by people in their circles so that you can get maximum possibilities to appear in personalized search results. But Do this impact to all ?
  4. Well, not really. This will impact to major search patters where there is clear trend, where people are sharing content on social media. For ex, for Brand Management, there are lot of pieces of content you will find on web shared by many company & people. (thats where you can utilize rel=”author” or rel=”publisher” tag… hint ) , but if you look for Squishing machine or dewatering screw press, there is hardly any community which shares content about this. So, in this area I don’t think Search Results will get much impact.
So, What should be the strategy ?
Well, Now Google has 2 kind of SERP (Generic & Personalized) so you also need to have 2 kind of SEO strategy. SEO Strategy for normal SERP & SEO strategy for Personalized SERP.
  • Efforts will be different as you need to earn “people to let them add in their G+ circles” when you optimize to Personalized SERP along with your normal On-page stuff.
What are the take away for any business from this update ?
  1. Google will try to improve the proportion of signed in people..
  2. Companies will need to find ways to earn the ‘social approval’ of influencers in their niche

Social Media Guidelines to Follow

Social media marketing management encompasses building your brand, loyalty, customer base and much more.

Five important B2B social media marketing guidelines.

Join the Right Networks

When developing a social media strategy it’s important to be active in the social networks that make the most sense for your brand. Facebook is the largest social network, but due to its size there is a lot of noise and distraction and it may not be the best place to spend the majority of social networking time. Some industries have niche social networks that may be beneficial.

Personality

Social media is about being social and provides a great opportunity to “humanize” your brand. Ultimately, people want to buy from other people. Instead of hiding behind a company logo in social media, introduce followers to the people that work at the company.

Have a Conversation

Don’t just use social media as a promotional tool. Spend time relationships with followers. A positive relationship can be a contributing factor towards deciding to do business with a company.

Network

In addition to connecting with current and potential clients and customers, social media is also a great way to network with other professionals and influencers in the industry. Getting noticed by industry bloggers and reporters can lead to additional marketing opportunities.

Produce Quality Content

Social media posts should be a mix of conversation and content, not one or the other. To help get them over to your site, include links to blog posts, white papers, E-books, etc.

Tips to Reduce the Bounce Rate

Be Mindful of Ad Placement

Let’s face it, no one likes looking at advertisements, but the reality is that many sites could not survive without them. Advertisements are a necessary evil that allows content providers to make money but too many advertisements can be a big turn-off to your readers.Advertising that’s too close to your site navigation can cause accidental clicks, which force visitors to leave your page — unintentionally, and in frustration.

Too many ads above the fold means your readers have more to wade through before getting to the heart of your site. Also, ads that interrupt your content or present themselves as if they were a part of your website can cause confusion and frustration.Keep advertising prominently placed but far enough out of the way that visitors can still use your site without having to navigate around a sea of ads.

Lazy-Load Third-Party Content

The more third-party services, widgets and content your site contains, the slower your pages will load — and the faster your users will leave. By lazy-loading third-party content (loading content via AJAX when it is needed, after the initial page load) can greatly decrease the perceived load time and allow visitors to start accessing your site’s content while other media loads in the background.

Contrast Is Key

No one will stay on a site they can’t read. Of all of the ways to increase accessibility of a site, perhaps the biggest and easiest is to simply use good contrast. Not only does this make the site more accessible to visitors who may have difficulty seeing, but also has the overall effect of making important content easier to find and focus on. Contrast can be a powerful tool for directing the reader’s attention to where you want it to go.

More and more people are accessing the web via mobile devices, which means your site will be viewed on a variety of screen resolutions — in any number of lighting conditions — so your site needs to be as readable as possible in these situations.

Have Clean, Accessible Navigation

Just as no one will stay on a site they can’t see, they also won’t stay on a site they can’t navigate. Navigation should be prominent, clear and easily accessible. Consider repeating sidebar or top links in the footer and make sure click targets for menus are large enough for use at small resolutions. Avoid drop-down menus or provide alternatives, since these are inaccessible on touch devices.

If your site has a large amount of content, include search functionality and a site map to help visitors easily find the information they’re looking for.

Your Message Should Be Immediately Obvious

One of the biggest causes of a high bounce rate is visitor confusion. If a new visitor to your site has to figure out or hunt down information telling them what your site does, that’s an immediate red flag. Your site’s purpose should be immediately evident, and expressed clearly in both its design and its content.

Tour pages and feature pages can be a great way to give additional information to users looking to learn more, but they shouldn’t be a necessity to understand what your product, service or site provides. Use headlines and graphics to highlight important features and key information. Your content should be organized and supplemented in such a way so that it guides the reader through the experience.

Finally, make call-to-action items descriptive and easy to find. Consider, for instance, the difference between the vague “Learn more” versus the more descriptive “See a list of product features.”

No Distractions, Please

Once you’ve gotten a visitor to your site and have managed to engage them with your content, don’t do anything to interrupt that! Keep animation to a minimum and, whenever possible, avoid serving audio ads and disruptive fly-outs.

Interstitial ads, pop-up ads within your text content, and interruptions to speak with live chat representatives and sign up for newsletters can all turn a reader away from your site in a matter of seconds.

Treat your users with respect. Allow them to use your site for its intended purpose by presenting well-organized information clearly and then getting out of the way.

Have a Responsive Layout

Earlier, we touched on mobile site usage and how increasing mobile traffic creates new concerns regarding readability and navigation. If your site gets a large amount of mobile traffic, then you probably want to go one step further by building your site around a responsive layout.

Responsive design is a good (often better) alternative to having specific mobile and large-screen versions of your site. A responsive layout uses techniques, such as CSS media queries, to rearrange and scale content based on screen resolution.

For that extra attention to detail, don’t forget high-resolution images and stylesheets for retina display. This greatly improves image sharpness and fidelity, making your site much easier to see on a small screen on devices supporting retina display technology.

Depending on the purpose, complexity and functionality of your site, multiple versions for web and large-screen may be a necessity. However, for the majority of sites on the web, a responsive design is a great way to ensure that your blog, web app or ecommerce site is easily accessible on a wide number of devices.

8 Ways to Optimize Video Content for Search

Optimizing video for search is easy to overlook and incredibly important.

This step-by-step guide will provide you with 8 quick tips to get your video SEO strategy off to a terrific start.

SEO Tips for Video: Choose the Right Place to Host Your Content

When it comes to hosting video, you have two choices: You can host it on your own site or host it on a third-party site, such as YouTube. The correct choice depends on your goals.
If you want to maximize total video views and you generate value from the views themselves (because, for example, your product is featured in your video), then use a third-party site such as YouTube because it will have the biggest built-in traffic.

However, if your goal is to use video to bring potential customer into your site or to increase the volume of your site's search referrals, then it is best to host your video yourself. Typically, this is done by embedding the video streamed from a video service into a page on your site.

SEO Tips for Video: Pick a Good Title and Description

This really isn't much different from picking a good title and description for a web page for SEO purposes. You want to be verbose, include your most important keywords, but to do it in a way that is user friendly and not simply cramming in the highest possible number of keywords.

For example, if this article were in video form, I would use a title like:

SEO for Video Content: 8 great tips to maximize the SEO benefit of video content
instead of

SEO Video, Best SEO tips, youtube video SEO, traffic from video, www.wpromote.com

Sadly, we still see way too many of these types of titles these days.

SEO Tips for Video: Use a Transcription Service

Since Google cannot look at a video and understand its content per se, associating a text transcript with your videos is a great tool to let the search engines – and video sites such as YouTube – get a better read of your video content. You can manually type up a transcript and upload it to a video service along with your video, or you can use one of a number of automatic transcription services that do it for you. Associating transcripts with your video is a key step in unlocking the content otherwise stuck inside of your great video content.

SEO Tips for Video: Consider Mass-Upload Services

There are very convenient resources such as TubeMogul.com that automate the process of submitting your video to all major (and even some minor) video sharing sites in one fell swoop.
Though these services are simple to use, it is still important that you think before you act; this relates back to the question of whether you are seeking to promote video to enhance search referrals to your site or you simply want to read the widest audience possible.

If you just are going for views, using these convenient services is a no-brainer. However, if you are looking to rank for the keywords related to the video, and you give up this content to the major video sites, most likely their pages will rank higher than your pages on Google, since their sites most likely already have far more site authority than your site has. If your goal is to improve your site's ranking by driving links and traffic to the page on your site, you may want to use mass-upload services sparingly or not at all.

SEO Tips for Video: Include Video in Your Sitemaps

If you are choosing to host video on your site, then it is critical to make sure the search engines know to index the pages that contain the videos as well as information about the videos themselves. You can accomplish this by creating a video sitemap.

A sitemap is a document that tells search engines about pages on your site so they have a better chance of being indexed (in Google's case, these are managed by using Google's "Webmaster Tools.") A video sitemap is a type of sitemap used to specifically identify and tag videos on your site. A good video sitemap will include the video file, a thumbnail image, and title and description information. If your site does not have a video sitemap, the search engines will be unable to include your video directly in related search results (though they could still index the page on which the video lives.)

SEO Tips for Video: Optimize Your Video URLs

Consider this SEO 101: Optimize the URLs of pages on your site by including in them information about the page itself (In other words www.store.com/maytag-dishwashers.html is a better URL than www.store.com/product12345.html.)

The same logic should be applied to the page that contains your video:

www.mysite.com/video/seo-tips.html is a stronger URL than www.mysite.com/seo-tips.html

SEO Tips for Video: Keep It Short

As brilliant as you think your video is, you should not expect anyone to watch a video that runs longer than 10 minutes. Personally, I consider 10 minutes to be a bit too long, as I am prone to tune out after more than 3 minutes unless the content I'm watching is truly awesome.

If you have 30 minutes of content and you just can't cut it down, then make it into a series of smaller videos. This has the benefit of keeping users' attention more engaged through each video. it also allows you to multiply the number of videos that you can optimize, tag, drive traffic to, and rank highly on Google for.

SEO Tips for Video: Spread the Word

Once you have created content worth sharing, tagged it, and submitted and uploaded it, it's time to get the word out. Videos attract an incredible number of in-bound links, which is key because in-bound links have a disproportionate effect on boosting your SEO rankings.

To spread the word, post a link to your video on your Facebook and Twitter accounts, allow and encourage commenting on your video, and make it easy for users to share your video on their Facebook, Twitter, Youtube accounts and personal blogs. E-mail your mailing list and link to the video. Encourage your employees, colleagues, friends, and family to help get the word out, too.
If your video is a bit more commercial and less likely to go viral, an inexpensive advertising campaign on YouTube or Google is always an option, and can often provide the much-needed spark to help a video gain an audience.

The bottom line is that online video is far more than a good way to kill time; it is an amazing medium to educate your customers, expand your reach, drive traffic to your site, and increase sales. With some unique content and a basic understanding of how to handle the SEO for that content, you can tap into this exciting and dynamic opportunity.

7 Key Search Engine Optimization

1. Text is the favorite format of search engine spiders. You can rely on spiders to crawl and read a website that has sufficient text content. If your website is heavy on graphics or dynamic content, find some way to work some basic body text into your site because spiders don’t really see Flash, JavaScript or image text.
2. When creating content, stick to one topic for each page. Several topics on a single page confuses readers andleads to poorer relevancy.
3. Use your strongest keywords early on in your copy, preferably in the first sentence. Craft your sentence in such a way as to help spiders establish a relationship between keywords. Insert keywords and key phrases in subsequent sentences, but avoid overusing them as this might lead search engines to consider it as spam.
4. Provide clear trailsfor spiders so that they can move from point A to point B and so on until they’ve covered the extent of your website that you want them to cover.
5. In some cases, you may not want spiders to access certain pages on your site. This may be due to privacy reasons or, because the pages are irrelevant to the site as a whole or something else. Learn to use “robots.txt” files to instruct spiders to stay away from such content.
6. Make your URL search-engine-friendly. Use two to three relevant keywords in your URL. Use lower case letters instead of uppercase, and hyphens instead of underscores. In general, simple, easy to remember URLs without too much punctuation are the way to go.
7. After the URL, spiders look at the page title. Titles are a very important on-page factor when it comes to ranking because a good title conveys to spiders what your webpage is about, therefore making it easier to index. When composing titles, use two or three strong keywords that tell the topic of the page and that you want to rank for. Keep in mind that the first words of the title are given the most importance, so you want to get those keywords in at the beginning. Your title is also what is shown to searchers in search engine results pages. Google shows up to 70 characters of a page title in their results page

Link Popularity

What is Link Popularity?

Link popularity refers to the number of links pointing to and from related sites and is an extremely important method of improving your site's relevancy in search engines.
There are three types of links that will increase the link popularity of your site:
  1. Internal links;
  2. Inbound/incoming links; and
  3. Outbound/outgoing links.
Let's take a look at each one in more detail.

Internal Links

Internal link popularity refers to the number of links to and from pages within a site. I recommend cross linking your important related pages. This helps search engine spiders find and index your most important pages quicker, especially if some pages are buried deep within your site.

Site Maps

Site maps are visual models of a site's content that allows users to find specific content or page. Site maps are like interactive table of contents, with links leading to most, if not all, pages of a web site. Site maps are organized hierarchically, breaking down the site's information into increasingly specific subject areas. If you have more than a dozen pages, I recommend you include a site map in your site. The add a link to the site map page from the home page, and on other pages. This way search engine spiders will find the site map, crawl the links and index your entire web site.

Inbound/Incoming Links

Inbound/incoming link popularity refers to links pointing to a site from other related sites. In addition, there are two types of inbound links:
  1. Links from sites you control: SEO experts do recommend linking between sites with targeted keywords. The reason for doing this is because some of the major search engines, such as Google, place a great importance on the text used within, and close to, links. But do not cross-link every page in one website with every page in another; and
  2. Links from sites you don't control: There are two ways of finding sites to link to yours. The best way to get other sites to link to yours is to ask them politely. And the best way to find likely candidates is to ask web sites that link to your competition. To find out which sites are linking to your a particular competitor, visit a search engine such as Yahoo! and enter, "link:" followed by the competitors domain name (with and without "www"). Yahoo! offers far more results than Google, so Yahoo! is the preferred choice.
    For example:
    link:www.competitor.com
To check the link popularity of your own sites, simply use your own domain name. Do not forget that all the sites listed in the same category as yours in the major web directories, such as the Yahoo! Directory and Open Directory Project, are ideal link candidates too.
Once you have compiled a list of related sites, add a link to them in your site. Then send an email to each web site owner informing them that you have linked to their site and politely ask them for a link back to your site. Another way of finding sites to link to yours is to find sites that accept site submissions. To find such sites, visit a search engine, such as Google, and search for:
    "add url" "your keywords"
Include the quotation marks to ensure the search engine only return pages with the exact search phrases you enter. Also try replacing, 'add url' with one of the following sets of search phrases:
add site, add link, submit url, submit site, submit link
In addition, you can also find site submission pages by searching for the actual page. So, try replacing the 'add url' search phrase with one of the following page names:
    addurl.html, addsite.html, addlink.html, submiturl.html, submitsite.html, submitlink.html, add-url.html, add-site.html, add-link.html, submit-url.html, submit-site.html, submit-link.html, add_url.html, add_site.html, add_link.html, submit_url.html, submit_site.html, submit_link.html

Outbound/Outgoing Links

Outbound/Outgoing links refers to links pointing to other related sites from your site. Search engine spiders will crawl your site's outbound links and determine that the content of the sites you link to are related to the content of your own site. How much importance outgoing links add to a site's link popularity rating is still being debated by search engine optimization specialists.

Response web design

Responsive Web Design (RWD) essentially indicates that a web site is crafted to use Cascading Style Sheets 3 media queries, an extension of the media rule, with fluid proportion-based grids (which use percentages and EMs instead of pixels), to adapt the layout to the viewing environment, and probably also use flexible images. As a result, users across a broad range of devices and browsers will have access to a single source of content, laid out so as to be easy to read and navigate with a minimum of resizing, panning, and scrolling.

Response web design multiple fluid Grid layout is a mixed approach fixed width for large and medium fluid width for small, Day by day; the number of devices, platforms, and browsers that need to work with your site grows. Responsive web design represents a fundamental shift in how we’ll build websites for the decade to come.

Instead of responding to today’s needs for a desktop Web version adapted to the most common screen resolution, along with a particular mobile version (often specific to a single mobile device), the idea is to approach the issue the other way around: use flexible and fluid layouts that adapt to almost any screen.

Core Concepts

Three key technical features are the heart of responsive Web design:

* Media queries and media query listeners
* A flexible grid-based layout that uses relative sizing
* Flexible images and media, through dynamic resizing or CSS

Magento SEO

Magento SEO – URLs Rewrite Management Feature

Search engine friendly URLs became a very important ranking factor for all ecommerce websites. The URL Rewrite Management is one of my favourite Magento SEO tools. It allows you to change (re-write) dynamically generated URL like http://www.kabiri.co.uk/catalog/product/view/id/7828/category/568 to the search engine friendly URL like this one http://www.kabiri.co.uk/jewellery-1/necklaces/radio-star-necklace.html. By using this brilliant Magento SEO tool you can easily create URLs which include all most important and relevant keywords.

Note: Remember to disallow indexing of original URLs by search engine spiders in the robots.txt exclusion file. This ensures that there’s only one version of Magento URL indexed by search engines.

Magento SEO – URL keys / URL identifiers

Magento allows you to specify the URL key (also known as the URL identifier) on every static, content and product category page, see below:

This means that you can choose the keyword you want and add it to the particular page’s URL independently from the Magento page name.

Another great thing is that all Magento URLs included in this path will automatically have their URL structure updated at the same time, For example, you don’t have to worry about URLs within the /necklaces/ path when you change the category’s URL key to /designer-necklaces/ – Magento will automatically update it to include the /designer-necklaces/.

Note: Once you decide to change the URL key, you need to find websites and pages which link to previous versions of those URLs (you can use Google Webmaster Central to identify them) and redirect those old URLs to ne w URLs.

Magento SEO – Canonical Link Elements Extension

This is my favourite Magento SEO extension – http://yoast.com/tools/magento/canonical/. It tells the search engine which URL it should have for the current Magento page.

The extension is useful when removing duplicate content issues relating to listings page pagination, when every page, e.g. ‘?p=1’, ‘?p=2’, etc., have the same title and meta description.

This fantastic Magento SEO tool also solves the common problem of many ecommerce platforms whereby one product is placed in many categories. This creates exact copies of the page on several URLs. The canonical link elements SEO extension tells search engines to treat every Magento product page as if it lived in the root category (not classified in any category), e.g. this URL http://www.kabiri.co.uk/jewellery-1/necklaces/masque-pendant-yellow-gold.html has a canonical link element which shortens the URL for search engines – http://www.kabiri.co.uk/masque-pendant-yellow-gold.html.

New SEO techniques for 2012!

New SEO techniques for 2012!

There are literally bunches of different ways by which you can optimize your website properly, and if you are interested in getting your website higher up the rankings on Google and also want to get a large amount of traffic to your page, making use of these techniques is a great way of capitalizing on to your web page and its capabilities. There are lots of people who make use of their website in order to earn money from it, and if you are interested in doing just that, getting more traffic to your page is very important. The higher amount of traffic that you get on your page, the higher will be the amount of money that you will earn.

In the following paragraphs, we have discussed some of the best search engine optimization techniques that you can employ in order to make your website a success and to increase your visibility in the internet world.
This year, you can be sure that guest blogging is going to be one of the best ways of increasing the amount of traffic to your website. The more you write, the higher will be the chances of increasing your visibility.

By maintaining a guest blog for your website, you will be able to attract a larger number of people to your page, and this will result in a higher flow of traffic. Also, by carefully integrating links that lead to your page on a guest blog, you can easily expect to gain a higher ranking for your website.

However, in order to take advantage of guest blogging properly, you will need to make sure that whatever you write is good enough. Always make sure that you write good and engaging material for your web page, and if you want to maintain a loyal set of subscribers to your page, make sure that you regularly update the content on your page.

Another great method of optimization that you can try out in 2012 is to optimize and alter the content on your web page only. On page optimization is a very crucial part of SEO, and can help in greatly increasing the amount of traffic that you receive on your page. The good thing about on page optimization is that it is quite simple and can be done by your own self only. Just carefully analyze the key words that you will use on your website while writing the content, and make sure that your website contains engaging content too.

By changing the design as well as uploading new graphical content on to your website, you can also expect to gain a lot of new visitors. In this regard, you can use guest blogging as a means of getting the word across, because as soon as people know that changes have been made to your website, you will be able to attract more traffic and gain lots of new visitors. However, building credibility is very important before that on your blog.

Google's current ranking algorithm update

You have probably noticed that Google is currently updating its ranking algorithm. This seems to be a major update because many webmasters have seen big changes in their rankings.

The PageRank of www.MSN.com dropped to PR2 in this latest update so there really seem to be some big changes in the new algorithm.

Google engineer Matt Cutts more or less declines that this is a big update in his blog:

"These days rather than having a large monolithic update, Google tends to have smaller (and more frequent) individual launches.

My point is that more than ever, we are constantly working to improve our algorithms and scoring. Some changes are hardly noticed at all. Some changes (e.g. user interface improvements) are more visible. Some changes have nothing to do with spam .Some changes do try to decrease spam or increase core quality.

And again, these PageRanks and backlinks have already been incorporated into scoring a while back (Google updates PageRank continually and continuously), but some people just love to look at PageRanks.)"

What has changed with this update?

Only Google's engineers know exactly what has been changed with this update. However, it seems that some factors seem to be important in this update:

Hidden text spam seems to be more penalized. While most search engines consider white text on white background spamming, it seems that Google now also recognizes text that is hidden in invisible CSS layers.

Links from automated link exchanges and text link advertising systems seem to count less.

As with every algorithm update, Google tries to remove the spam from its database with this update.

What should you do now?

First of all, don't panic. If your web site rankings have dropped, wait another week to make sure that the index update is over. If your web site is still not listed, take a look at what you might have done wrong.

The State of SEO in 2012

Many things have changed in the Search Industry
  • Panda got global (ruining half the world's vacations last August), and actually, we are at its release 3.7;
  • A Penguin has been unleashed free to kill any site with an over optimized link profile;
  • Google decided that only keywords referrals from organic searches were private;
  • Google started an aggressive monetization policy in strong industries' verticals (Flight, Hotels, Cars...), making even thinner the presence of organic results above the fold;
  • The Knowledge Graph had been released;
  • Google+, with some hiccups, has started having some traction and surely an increasing importance from an SEO point of view;
  • We all started talking about Author Rank;
  • And we are still discussing about the relevance of Social Graph in the SERPs;
  • Bing has improved its pro SEOs policy considerably;
  • Mobile and its importance also for SEO is not a niche for fews early adopters anymore.

Pear analytics

Pear Analytics is a full-service Internet marketing system designed for small to medium-sized businesses. We sell search engine optimization and pay-per-click advertising packages with a variety of add-on services.
We win against our competitors by having a superior search engine optimization product that has proven to work successfully over the last 18 months since developing this new process.  There are two areas that truly separate us from our competitors:

1. We produce engaging, useful content for our customers, and post it to their website for them.  We know you’re busy and you hardly have the time to labor over your website in between meetings, and actually selling your own product or service.  Don’t settle for automated, spun copy that gets pasted all over the Internet, making your brand look bad.  Instead, let our team search nationwide for the best writer we can find who understands your industry.  They will learn your about your product and what sells it, so they can incorporate that into the writing.  Google says they reward websites who have useful, relevant and original copy, and penalize those who do not.

2.  We build value to your website, not a domain you don’t own.  We get it – you just spent a pretty penny getting your site redesigned, and the last thing you want to do is build another site off to the side for SEO purposes.  Instead, we work directly on your website, and improve whatever we can there.  And at the end of the day, you get to keep all of the content, linking and work done to your website – not a keyword-rich domain that you won’t own when you stop paying.

Tips to reduce AdWords campaign costs

Tips to reduce AdWords campaign costs

Cost Per Acquisitions (CPA) and Cost Per Clicks (CPC’s) are probably the most trickiest of the targets in PPC campaigns. Getting a low CPA requires lot of research and testing over time and the techniques differ from campaign to campaign, however, getting the basics right is the first step.
Let’s take a look at the tips you can employ to reduce the average CPA in any AdWords campaign.

1. Reduce the landing page load time

So, landing pages are the focus here. Making sure they are technically perfect is the most simple yet the important step you can take. Landing page load time is crucial as it directly affects your page’s quality score. Use tools like Pingdom or Google’s Page Speed Tool, to ensure that your landing pages are always super speedy.

2. Relevancy. Relevancy. Relevancy.

Content relevancy on your landing page should directly match the Ads and is directly proportional to your quality score. An Ad that has “Ladies’ shoes” in the title should be leading to a page related to ladies shoes, or else the quality score goes flat down. If there are many different content pieces on your websites, that are different in context, add different ad-groups that match up to the content. Diversification is the key.

3. Try A/B Testing or Multivariate testing and record the  best results

Google provides two excellent tools to help you figure out what people think is relevant on your website. A/B Testing and Multivariate Testing. Use the tools whenever you launch a new campaign and track the results. Sometimes the results can be completely different from what you might have thought, and often provides lot of insights about what works and what doesn’t in the campaigns.

Here is a great guide on how to use Google AdWords Website Optimiser.

4. Use Exact Keywords Match

One mistake lot of beginner’s make is to use broad match while estimating traffic, and going for the kill. In reality, their Ads would be showing up on a wide range of keywords, even the one’s that are not targeting the actual website. This will lead to depleting the budget for irrelevant keywords and reduce your quality score. So every time Google suggests those keywords, make sure they are exact searches.

5. Spread out your budget evenly over time

Most of us are right with this. As suggested, we spread out the budget evenly over time so that the ads are shown at all times, as opposed to showing more frequently at one particular period of time.
But this can also be the other way round. If you look into the “Dimensions” tab in your campaigns, you will be able to show the Ads based on particular time frames. Look at the previous history and see which time slots show the minimum conversion, and pause them off. You do not want to spend your money on low conversion time slots. This can significantly save a lot of money.

There are plenty of fine tuning you can do in your campaign settings to bring down your cost. The idea is to get better click through rates and better CPAs, as without any one of which, the campaign may go bloated.

Disavow Links

  • Bing has announced a new configuration area in Bing Webmaster Tools called "Disavow Links." The tool is for submitting URLs of spammy or low-quality sites that link to you or links to your site that seem "unnatural." The new tool can be found under the Configure My Site area of Bing Webmaster Tools.
  • The tool allows you to provide Bing with signals that alert Bing to links you don't trust, according to Bing's blog post. There are no limits to the links you can disavow. Doing so helps send signals to Bing that suggest you want to distance yourself from the site providing the link to you.
  • The tool is merely a way of letting site owners tell Bing what they think of some of the links pointing back to their sites. Regardless of the reason you’re choosing to disavow a link, the mere fact that a webmaster communicates with Bing is what's most important to them.
  • "Webmasters have been asking for a way to disavow links for years now," said Bing's Duane Forrester. "This tool starts that conversation. It can help Bing understand a webmaster’s intent around links pointed at their site."
  • But what happens if you disavow a link you think is shady, but really isn't? Will that hurt your site's ranking? Forrester said no, the act of disavowing a link is merely a signal to Bing.
  • "Given there are hundreds of signals at play when determining rankings, telling us to ignore the value from some links, in most instances, won’t have a dramatic effect."
  • Everything is a signal. For example, many sites improperly use rel=canonical markup. However, Bing is flexible how they react to these signals.
  • You won't see major fluctuations in rankings in some sort of knee-jerk response from merely one signal. Forrester said the overriding a signal to protect a website is an important aspect of their flexibility. If you activate a signal that would be detrimental to your site – for example improper canonical or disavowing a good link – Bing can choose to ignore that signal.
  • The question has become why? There's been a lot of hubbub regarding links over the past few months since Google's Penguin update. But penalizing for unnatural backlinks was a Google thing, right?
  • Forrester suggests that the ability to disavow links has been an ongoing topic for years. After the recent redesign of Webmaster Tools, Bing was in a position to be able to create this tool. So they did.
  • Forrester said the timing of this update isn't correlated to Penguin. The tool was part of ongoing developments in Webmaster Tools based from ongoing feedback they have received from webmasters.
  • Bottom line: while these tools are provided for helping to make Bing a better engine, don't dwell on the be all, end all nature of every act you take.
  • "It's very important folks keep an eye the bigger picture," said Forrester. “Everything is about signals and balance. This new disavow tool, like all the rest of Bing's Webmaster tools, helps Bing to understand a webmaster's intent around its site, and its links.”
