Adding Omniture Analytics To Your Website:

The Omniture manual is large and daunting but using Omniture is actually quite simple.
Here's what to do.

  1. Get an Omniture consultant to send you the Omniture "tags" for a website domain you wish to measure. You should receive the files: Page Code.txt, s_code.js, and some other files for Flash
  2. Include the javascript files in your HTML.
  3. Insert the script from "Page Code.txt" before the closing </body> tag.
  4. You will see these variables in the script that was provided:

the next lines. */
s.pageName=""
s.server=""

New Social Bookmarking Site: Drive more Traffic

Pinterest is a social bookmarking tool used to “pin” images found around the Web into categorized collections, or boards. Think of it like an interactive, shareable scrapbook. Like any good social network, you can follow other users, share their content, make comments, and tag users.

Similar to a Twitter stream, you get real-time updates of what the people you follow are pinning.  You can also easily share your pins on Facebook and Twitter. If a user finds something they like on Pinterest, there is a good chance they will at least click the source link and, at most, make a purchase.

Why People Are Obsessed
Pinterest combines two of the most compelling elements of social media: visual content and sharing who you are. Oh, and everything looks really pretty…

How it Works

Although Pinterest is still “invite only,” you can request an invite on the site with a pretty quick turnaround for access. You can also login using your Facebook or Twitter account for instant access. The Pinterest user interface is extremely intuitive — so much so that I think the quickest way to “get it” is to join and from there it’s very self-explanatory.

Pinterest features:

PINS
A pin is an image or video, either from a website or uploaded from the user. A description can (and should) be added to pins.

BOARDS: Pins can be organized by topic, called boards.

FOLLOWING
Like Twitter, you can follow anyone, even if they aren’t following you back. You have the option to follow all of another user’s boards, or you can just select certain boards to follow.

REPINS
Repins are the “retweets” of the Pinterest world. Repinning is sharing an image pinned by someone you follow or found while browsing Pinterest, and then adding it to one of your own boards.

LIKES
Liking a pin just adds it to the “Likes” on your profile, but doesn’t add it to one of your boards. Again, you don’t need to be following someone to like their pin.

PINNING FROM THE WEB
You can add a “Pin It” button right into your browser to easily pin things you come across on the Internet (this is currently only available for Chrome).

SHARING
Anytime you pin something, you can easily share it on Twitter and Facebook:

Benefits for Brands

1.Get Seen: Pinterest levels the playing field for smaller retail businesses that don’t have the budget or resources to compete in search results

2. Building Links:Anytime someone pins something from your site, it automatically pulls in not just the image from your site, but also a link. There is a chance for that pin to be repinned multiple times.

3. Brand Advocacy: If people love your products and they’re on Pinterest, they will not only pin your stuff, but they might dedicate an entire pin board to your brand.

Drupal Is the Best CMS for SEO

Drupal, the open source content management system (CMS) that runs WhiteHouse.gov, MTV Europe, and The Economist, is a very powerful system that can be used for large, complex sites, and it's the best platform that exists today for SEO. I've seen clients triple their traffic within a few weeks of switching from a lesser platform. Drupal's built-in tools for automating SEO on massive amounts of content, along with granular control that gives you absolute power over every single site element, put it head and shoulders above the rest, including Joomla and WordPress. Additionally, Drupal is the most scalable, configurable system, and major improvements in usability will soon shorten the learning curve for new users and developers.

Search engine optimized URLs. Unlike WordPress, Drupal gives you complete control over URL structure. Each item of content created in Drupal (called a node) can be given a custom URL, called a URL alias.

Custom content types and views. Without having to write any code, you can use the content construction kit (CCK) and view modules to create new content types and create advanced custom views for those types.
Ease of editing and revisions. Even the most professional companies make mistakes. Recently I found two spelling errors on CNN.com's home page, including the word "errors" (it was spelled "erros" for about an hour before the mistake was corrected). Drupal's built-in version control allows you to save new versions of your Web pages every time they are edited. This gives you the ability to revert back to old versions at any time

The organizational wizardry of taxonomy. Drupal has a very powerful, built-in taxonomy (categorization) system that allows you to organize and tag content with keyword-rich terms. While care should be taken that each Drupal "vocabulary" be limited to certain content types, it is an infinitely flexible system.
Multiple user management. Drupal is almost as well-known for its community as it is for being easily optimized.
Page titles. The page title is the single most important on-page thing you can do to improve the SEO of your website.

Better integration with Google Analytics. Have you ever wondered how much your own clicking around and working on your website skews your analytics data? Not if you have a properly configured Drupal site.
assionate and active community. Drupal has a large community of users and developers who are very active and passionate about the CMS
Free as in beer. Unlike other platforms, Drupal modules (what we call plug-ins, add-ins, or widgets - modular pieces of code that you can easily add to your site) are free.
Getting started with Drupal SEO is easy. Just download the Drupal SEO checklist module, drop it into your sites/all/modules folder on your server, and turn it on from the modules admin page.

Google Maps Adds Emergency Alerts

Google has announced Google Public Alerts, a platform designed to bring you relevant emergency alerts when you're searching on Google.

If a major storm is headed your way, Google wants to be your go-to information source. The Google Crisis Response team wants to alert users about when a storm will strike, how bad will it be, and what resources are available to help in the current situation.

Assuming you have cell service or Internet access during a major weather event, the emergency information will be available online with easy to use online tools. Google has teamed up with several weather, public safety, and national foundations such as the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the National Weather Service, and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), with all their data being accessible online the moment it hits any one of their sites.

For example, if you Google [flood Indiana], this will trigger a Flood Warning Google Maps alert, which appears above all the other map information on the page.

If you click on "more info" you will see a page detailing out everything about the flood warning alert, along with everything that Google has about the possible or current flooding. You will also get a link to the source of the information, in this case The National Weather Service.

If you're located in the area of the alert, your area will be listed first. If you aren't located in the area of the alert, you'll see the areas listed with the greatest severity based on your search query.
